For Concept You – Volvo’s most exclusive concept car to date – the ambition was to design a car, and not least an interior, that breathes Scandinavian luxury.

Volvo turned to Kasthall to create a completely unique rug that adds to the feeling of sophisticated elegance, a cooperation that we at Kasthall are very proud of.

Like all the other elements of the interior of the car, the rug fades from darker shades in the front to lighter cream colours in the back. At the same time, the rug transforms from a sportier expression with a low, compact cut pile in the front, to a more luxurious longer pile height in the back.

The rug was hand tufted, a technique that gives complete freedom to adapt the shape of the rug, and the colour blends. The handtufting technique also facilitates the transfer from the shorter pile height to longer. Kasthall’s product developer Peter Magnusson, who has worked together with the Volvo design team to create the rug, tells about how he made numerous yarn poms to find the exact right colours, which were then translated into the rug by our very skilled hand tufter – see film here.
