Home of a Japanese architect

Tokyo, Japan

When renowned Japanese architect Makoto Tanijiri designed his own private residence in Tokyo, the project attracted attention not only for its architecture but also for its carefully considered interior. The home reflects Tanijiri’s distinctive approach to space and materiality, where minimal forms are balanced with strong textures.

Within the living room, a bespoke Kasthall rug forms the centerpiece of the interior. The rug was developed in a single colour variation to align with the architect’s vision of a space that feels modern yet grounded, combining freshness with a slightly rugged, timeless character.
Set against exposed concrete walls, the rug introduces warmth and subtle structure to the room. Its vertical rhythm and textured surface complement the raw material palette, creating a balanced dialogue between softness and architectural clarity.
