Designer Collaboration

Sir David Chipperfield is a British architect known for an architecture of clarity, proportion and quiet permanence. Over four decades, he has developed a design language grounded in material, structure and a precise response to context, creating buildings that endure beyond their time. His work focuses on architecture’s relationship to its historical, cultural and spatial surroundings.

Founded in London in 1985, David Chipperfield Architects has realised major cultural projects, including the restoration of the Neues Museum in Berlin, the Hepworth Wakefield and Museo Jumex in Mexico City. In 2023, he was awarded the Pritzker Architecture Prize. This approach extends into his collaboration with Kasthall.

This architectural thinking extends into his collaboration with Kasthall. Collections such as Tegel and Fasad translate principles of rhythm, proportion and structure into woven form, where layered surfaces, geometric patterns and carefully considered materials create rugs that echo the clarity and balance of architectural space.

"We wanted to create something elegant with a decent but strong personality. The concept of layering to create a balanced structure in the Fasad rug was key to this, and after many iterations in the design studio and by the looms, the recycled wool proved to be more than capable of achieving the physical and visual character we were looking for."
