Ilse Crawford is a British designer and founder of the London-based studio Studio Ilse, widely recognised for a human-centred approach that places people’s needs and experiences at the heart of design. Working across interiors, furniture and product design, her projects focus on how spaces and objects shape everyday life, prioritising comfort, atmosphere and a sense of wellbeing. Rather than treating design as purely visual, Crawford emphasises the sensory and emotional qualities of environments, paying close attention to material, tactility, light and the way people move through spaces.
Through Studio Ilse, founded in 2001, Crawford has created projects ranging from homes and hotels to public spaces and cultural institutions, each shaped by the belief that design should support how people live and interact with their surroundings.
Her collaboration with Kasthall reflects this same philosophy. Inspired by the landscape surrounding Kasthall’s factory in Kinna, Sweden, Studioilse developed a series of rugs that translate the colours, textures and rhythms of Swedish fields and meadows into woven form.
"With Kasthall we explored weaving techniques to reflect the rhythm, irregularity and tactility of Swedish landscapes. In turn the rugs bring these qualities into the homes and public spaces where we live."Ilse Crawford
