Kasthall unveils Anemon, a new rug collection inspired by an original aquarelle painting from its archives. Tufted and blossoming, the collection brings nature’s vitality into contemporary interiors. With its organic, large floral pattern and expressive coloring, Anemon embodies the spirit of spring and a new creative era at Kasthall.
Rediscovered in the archives, Anemon is based on a 1991 artwork by the late Gunilla Lagerhem Ullberg, former Head of Design at Kasthall for 28 years and often referred to as the “Queen of Rugs.” This new edition is a reinterpretation by Kasthall Design Studio that brings past and present together through bold color and expressive tactility.
The collection is available in three versions: Blue, Coral and Lilac. Blue closely follows Ullberg’s original design, while Coral and Lilac are contemporary interpretations that give new life to the floral motif.
“By transforming one of her original sketches into a contemporary masterpiece, Anemon pays tribute to Ullberg’s timeless elegance and artistic spirit, ensuring her legacy lives on for generations to come,” says Mirkku Kullberg, CEO of Kasthall.
Tufted at Kasthall’s factory in Kinna, Sweden, Anemon is made from pure wool and linen, creating a subtle mélange effect enhanced by bouclé outlines in both materials. The rug is available in rectangular and round sizes and is designed to bring tactile depth and a strong visual presenceto interior spaces.
With Anemon, Kasthall signals a renewed interest in rugs with large, expressive patterns. “We believe we’re entering a golden age for rugs and textiles, where these pieces become a key part of making a space inviting and telling the story of the people living in it,” says Kullberg.
