about kasthall

Makers of beautiful rugs. Creators of design culture.

We are makers

Making something is a pure, beautiful thing. Kasthall has always been about making. Rooted in tradition, carried forward by the hands and minds of our craftspeople. From weaving and tufting to material innovation, our craft evolves through knowledge passed on, refined and reimagined. What we have found is that the logic of the maker can be inherently sustainable, in more ways than one. It can sustain us; creatively, socially and spiritually.

The heartbeat of Kasthall

The mill in Kinna, Sweden, is the heart of Kasthall, where industrial craft and human skill bring each rug to life. From yarn spinning to weaving and finishing, every step takes place under one roof. Skills can be learned, mastery must be earned. Our craftspeople are true masters. This way of working is built on knowledge passed on over generations, but it doesn’t stand still. New techniques, materials and collaborations are part of the same continuum.

Kasthall Design Studio

While our production remains local, our perspective is not. At Kasthall Design Studio, we treasure what is local, yet work outside-in, placing the rug in a wider cultural context. We work with architects and designers internationally, drawing on a broad and curious approach to explore what a rug can be — not only as a surface, but something that anchors a space and becomes part of a wider design culture. We collaborate with leading architects and designers to generate new meaning and shape contemporary design culture.

Rooted in a region shaped by textile production, everything still happens under one roof — from yarn to weaving, tufting and finishing. Design and making are not separate processes here; they happen side by side, in constant exchange between material, technique and idea.

Masters of weaving

Our weaving expertise pushes the boundaries of contemporary interiors. Every rug is engineered with architectural clarity and refined tactility, balancing aesthetics and performance with exceptional precision. We translate modern design, art and craft into soft beauty made to last — rugs that enrich every home.

Innovators of tufting

Tufting enables expressive surfaces and bold statements. Kasthall's tufted rugs are created with strands of wool or linen punched through the backing with a tufting tool. With advanced techniques and material control, we sculpt rugs with unique depth, softness and personality — tailored to each space and creative vision. Design without constraints — tactile impact that transforms interiors. Craftsmanship and technology — perfectly woven together.

The art of colour

Colour is not chosen. It's crafted. Colour begins long before a rug is made. We design and develop our own yarns and colour recipes. Our yarn is spun and crafted in our atelier in Kinna, Sweden, giving us full control over texture, quality and expression. This way, every thread carries the depth, nuance and integrity that define our rugs.

Responsible from yarn to home

Responsibility at Kasthall is embedded in every step of the process — from raw material to finished rug. Working with carefully selected natural fibres, trusted suppliers and local production in Kinna, we ensure lasting quality while continuously refining how we make.

95% of our virgin wool comes from New Zealand, alongside linen sourced from France and trusted partners across Europe.

the name kasthall

The name Kasthall comes from the land itself. Long before the factory was built, the site was known for a sloping rock by the river, where women gathered to wash clothes while children played nearby, throwing stones across the water. The name stayed — tied to place, to use, to everyday life.

Global presence. Local production.

Active in 30+ markets worldwide, with showrooms in Milan and New York and concept stores in Stockholm and Malmö. Kasthall collaborate closely with architects and designers across the globe — bringing Kasthall into homes, public spaces, and cultural institutions.

Kasthall is part of NOD – Network of Design – a Nordic design group including String Furniture, Photowall and Wall of Art, strengthening our global presence and growth.

Royal Warrant Holder

Crafted in Sweden since 1889, Kasthall holds a Royal Warrant as a supplier to the Swedish Royal Court — a recognition of enduring craftsmanship and quality.
