Kasthall Design Studio is where the company’s own designs take shape, developed from within. Rather than a single author, the studio reflects a shared way of working. Ideas are shaped collectively, through dialogue between design, craft and making. Each rug emerges from this exchange, guided by the logic of the loom, and refined through continuous material exploration.
Kasthall Design Studio also collaborates with external designers, translating creative concepts into rugs through material knowledge, weaving and tufting.
Over time, the studio has been shaped by a number of key voices.
Among them, Gunilla Lagerhem Ullberg, whose work was instrumental in shaping Kasthall’s textile language over decades, as well as designers such as Maja Johansson Starander and Ingrid Dessau. Their contributions form part of an ongoing practice — one that continues to evolve and question while honoring its origins.
Today, Kasthall Design Studio works across collections and custom projects, developing rugs that respond to contemporary spaces and lean into a deep knowledge of weaving and tufting. All designs created within this framework are presented as design by Kasthall Design Studio.
