For nearly three decades, Gunilla Lagerhem Ullberg led the design work at Kasthall, shaping many of the collections that today define the company’s contemporary rug design. As Head of Design from 1987 to 2015, she played a central role in establishing Kasthall’s modern design language.

Lagerhem Ullberg worked closely with the factory in Kinna, often developing ideas directly at the looms while experimenting with yarns, colours and weaving techniques. Her designs are recognised for their confident use of colour and pattern, where bold compositions are balanced with a strong sense of structure.

Her curiosity and experimental approach to design earned her the title “queen of rugs”.
