A new colourway, Malm extends Ålegræs, the distinctive long-pile rug designed by Cecilie Manz as part of the Landskab collection.Thea ddition brings a deeper, more saturated dimension to the collection, addressing spaces that require stronger anchoring and atmospheric presence.
Ålegræs explores the relationship between pile height variations and yarn composition to create surfaces that feel both dynamic and grounded. The construction method blends several pile heights into one cohesive field, where subtle changes in texture create visual movement across the rug’s surface. This approach reflects Manz’s design philosophy, where material precision determines the final expression.
The new Malm colourway presents a blue-grey tone with warm, earthy undertones. This darker interpretation adds weight and quiet saturation compared to the existing palette in the Landskab collection. According to Manz, “Malm adds depth to the collection — a more saturated version of the rug. It suits darker interiors and sturdy floors where solid grounding is needed.”
The Landskab collection comprises four rug designs that merge Kasthall’s craftsmanship heritage with Manz’s characteristic design sensibility. The collection includes two flatwoven rugs (Gryn and Korn) and two hand-tufted rugs (Spire and Ålegræs), each with distinct textural qualities. Linen yarn features throughout the collection, chosen for its reflective properties and refined character.
The original Landskab colour palette includes Øresund, Kalk, Rimfrost, Strå, Klint, and Salvie — tones selected for their subtle, timeless qualities. Malm extends this palette toward darker territory while maintaining the collection’s overall cohesion.
Cecilie Manz, a Danish designer known for her focus on simplicity and functional clarity, has collaborated with Kasthall to create rugs that balance aesthetic refinement with practical durability. Her work emphasizes how small compositional details influence the overall experience of a textile surface.
