BRINGING TEXTURES TO WORKSPACE INTERIORS AT SNÄCKAN 8

Stockholm, Sweden

At Snäckan 8 in central Stockholm, rugs by Kasthall introduce a textile layer of color, texture, and tactility to the building's atrium. The building, Designed by architects BAU, is characterized by a strong focus on materiality, with materials selected to create a distinct and enduring architectural expression.

The bespoke rugs are designed by Louise Hederström and developed specifically for the atrium They combine wool and linen with six different tufting techniques. Variations in pile height, structure, and expression create a richly textured surface, while the pattern and color palette draw inspiration from the changing forms and tones of nature as summer transitions into autumn.

FROM DESIGN IDEA TO BESPOKE RUG
The rugdesign originates from September, created by Louise Hederström in collaboration with Kasthall and first exhibited in Stockholm in 2018. For Snäckan 8, the concept was adapted to the dimensions and placement of the rugs in the atrium, creating a bespoke interpretation for the architectural setting.

Nature is a recurring influence in Hederström's work. The pattern takes inspiration from the forms and variations of the forest, while the colors reflect the point in September when clear summer greens begin to shift towards cooler autumn tones.

The design is part of Hederström's Transitions series, in which different months are interpreted through their individual color palettes.

MADE BESPOKE FOR SNÄCKAN 8
For Snäckan 8, the rugdesign was developed in response to the specific dimensions and placement of the rugs in the atrium. This ability to adapt a design to its architectural context is central to Kasthall's approach to bespoke projects.

The result brings together BAU's architecture, Louise Hederström's design vision, and Kasthall's expertise in colors, materials and tufting – creating rugs developed specifically for the space.

“The challenge was to let each individual technique retain its own character while creating a cohesive whole. Combining yarns and colors and developing samples together with specialists and tufters with such deep knowledge was a privilege.”
Louise Hederström

SIX TUFTING TECHNIQUES IN ONE DESIGN

The rugs combine six different tufting techniques. Each technique creates its own surface and character through differences in pile height and structure. Bringing them together within one design creates a varied tactile expression while maintaining a cohesive whole.

Working with Kasthall's product specialists and tufters, Hederström explored combinations of wool and linen yarns, colors, and constructions. The possibilities and parameters of production became an integral part of developing the design.
