Located in the peaceful landscapes of Borås, Sweden, the Getaway is an extraordinary residence designed by the architectural firm Claesson Koivisto Rune. Owned by Anna and Patrik Johäll, this home merges Scandinavian design with its natural surroundings.
From the outset, the vision for the Getaway was clear: “We wanted to create a low-maintenance ‘treehouse,’ placed in the heart of nature with as small a footprint as possible,” explains Patrik Johäll. At the same time, they sought to capture the experience of a luxurious getaway without the need to travel. “Our idea was to recreate the feeling of staying at a fantastic hotel but within the comfort of our own home.
For the Johäll family, life in the Getaway residence is defined by a unique connection where the boundaries between indoors and outdoors are blurred. The property consists of four cube-shaped buildings, each with its specific purpose: the main house, an annex, a sauna, and a garage. Every structure is thoughtfully placed within the landscape, reflecting a deep commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.
Claesson Koivisto Rune’s design approach allows this innovative architecture to coexist with nature. Rather than imposing on the landscape, the design flows within it. With minimalism and sustainability at its core, every element of this project is carefully considered to be both visually refined and functionally purposeful.
